Everyone say “Hello” to Hannah!
Hannah is amazing senior at Boswell High School, Class of 2015. She found me on Instagram and I was honored that I was able to work with her to complete her senior portraits. I hope that Mo students from Central High reach out to me for their portraits and life events.
As usual, our first meeting with Hannah and her was at mom at a local coffee shop to discuss the portrait process and what she had in mind for her senior portraits. We talked for a bit and then we headed to a local park for her practice session.
What is a practice session?
The practice session is incredibly important. Here is what the practice will do for us:
1. Let’s me and the subject get to know each other and how we can work together for the best result.
2. It helps the subject understand what makes a picture a photograph.
3. Let’s me see how the subject will do in front of the camera.
4. Allows me to teach the subject how to be in front of the camera.
Item 3 and 4 are the most important aspects. When I am done with the practice shoot, I will give the subject homework to complete before the full session. It will include You Tube videos to watch and a couple of completed galleries to scroll through to see a real model at work. Then you need to practice. Practice and practice. The Mo you practice what you learn the better the photographs will be during the full session.
There is NOT an additional fee for the practice session, it is included in the pricing structure. This is a Mo Photos advantage.
It did not take long for Hannah to hit a rhythm during the practice session. She is a great listener and learned quickly. Here are a few images from our practice session.
After our practice session, I gave Hannah a long list of homework. Preparation is key to an amazing full session and I challenged Hannah to make it the best she could make it. I sent her some You Tube videos I like and I sent her some of my galleries from other shoots. Being able to see others that I have worked with during a session is more helpful than you think.
The big day for her session finally came and we decided to shoot at several locations in downtown Fort Worth. Hannah and her mom scouted a few locations the day before our shoot and we also visited a few of my favorite locations.
We had a great session and captured some incredible images, but we also had a bit of excitement. One of the locations that Hannah and her mom selected was a bit…what is the word? umm…… SKETCHY! That is the right word. Our last spot we selected was very sketchy. Crack house sketchy. In fact, I think it was a crack house. Hannah took us where?!
It was our last location, we had look outs posted to keep us safe and we were not there long. Got our shots and a called it day. I got the shot in the first few frames, but we stayed until it we couldn’t get any Mo shots.
I now look back on these images and now know that we were crazy! What were we thinking. Scroll to the last image and you will see little blue rubber bands all over the steps. I can only imagine the blue bands were the bands that keep drug bags closed. WHAT WERE WE THINKING? Hannah took us where?! 😉
It was daylight, and we had an entourage with us, but I look back and this one laugh. What a fun and interesting day, right Hannah?
Here are some of the shots from our full session.
Hannah is welcome in front of my camera any day. She is fun, witty and gorgeous.
Good luck Hannah!
