I am so proud of my daughter, Addison. We had a shoot last week and she took a fantastic picture of April G at sunset. I think it was the shot of the day. She took the photo and submitted last night at our monthly photography club meeting for the monthly print contest. This month’s contest theme was “Portraits”.
Her picture “Beyond” was freaking AWESOME! The club always has two categories for the print contest, the monthly subject and an open category. The monthly subject photo must be taken between monthly photo club meetings, and the open category can be taken within the last year.
Usually the winner is decided by popular vote by club members. Since this month’s category was “Portraits” and that is the club president’s specialty, Master Photographer Barbara Berry was the judge for the Portrait pictures. We went ahead and still held the member vote for the category and Addie won by a lot with her photo “Beyond”. The second youngest member of the club won the “People’s Choice” selection. When they announced the winner, everyone was so complementary of Addie’s work. They were impressed with her level of photography considering she’s so young.
I am very proud. Have I mentioned that?
Be on the lookout for AddieFocused Photography. She is on the rise! Here is her submitted entry.

To end such a fun evening with my daughter winning the people’s choice award, Barbara then announced the winner in the “Portrait” category and it was my picture! AWESOME! I barely beat out Addison, but just a hair. I couldn’t believe it. I am so excited that I was able to squeak out a win over my own kid.
I will admit, I was nervous. She has really got some skill.
My photo was taken with Andrea H and is titled “Cobalt Confidence”. Thanks Andrea! Your confidence helped secure a win.

I took this photo a few weeks ago, I have not posted it anywhere because I have not wanted anyone from the photography club to see my entry. Now that the contest is over, I am going to throw it out for everyone to see. I have a few more from the shoot that I will post in days to come.
If you are not part of a local photography club, you should be. It will take a few tries to find the right group, but you will and you won’t look back. Great people, great fun and finally have other photographers to ask burning questions that you just can’t seem to find an answer to. All skill levels are generally welcome. Everyone learns from everyone, the way it should be.
If you live in my part of town, be sure to check out the club that I attend.
